Baseline Measurement of Da'wa Project

Problem(s) to address

After several discussions, we have been collected some data. Based on the data, we decide to choose missed the fajr prayer because of oversleeping to be the problem that should be addressed by our group. Based on our observation, it has been a big problem among some students especially in the weekend. The behavior needs to be dealt with some interventions. In this problem, we expect to be able to change the behavior to take seriously the punctuality in performing fajr prayer.

Primary targets of the intervention

Our intervention will be aimed at our roommates. We have 6 individuals as our primary targets. They will be our target group. Their identity will be anonymous and confidential. Their behavior of overslept until missed fajr prayer will be maintained if nothing has been done to change it. Therefore, we will approach them with our da’wa intervention. In addition, sleep late at night is a main reason of the behavior’s problem.

Action plan/ Procedure

  • Our main goal is to ensure they will wake up on time to perform fajr prayer.
  • Naturalistic observation to obtain information and recognize the main reason of the problem.
  • Each one of us will be in charge of making the behavior change.
  • Each one of us selects a target (roommate).
  • Obtain their consent. They will be informed about our project and our intention. Their identity will be confidential. They will be no discussion among our group about their identity. Only the person in charge of them knows.
  • The behavior will be observed continuously and the data will be recorded.

Da'wa Intervention

  1. Face to face talk
  2. Give advises
  3. Provide social support
  4. Use positive reinforcement by give material reinforces. For instance, Atika's roommate like curry chicken pau. So, she will buy the pau for her roommate every time she wakes early or on time for fajr prayer.

Duration of intervention

Da'wah Project

On Thursday, March 14, we decide to choose manner on duty as our target behavior and the target group is IIUM male maintenance. We heard a lot of comments from IIUM female students about their dissatisfaction of male maintenance manners for instance the way salaam are given. However, we never had such experiences. This is a da'wah project, our attention is not to blame but to advice. Therefore, any misunderstanding or inconvenience can be avoided. Further discussion about our project will be held later, this is our first proposal and any changes might be happened.

Common Phenomena in Classical Conditioning

Step 1: NS                                   No Response
            (M)

Step 2: NS
            (M)
              +                                         UCR
           UCS
          (Rape)                          (Trauma/Anxiety)

Step 3: CS                                      CR
           (M)                             (Trauma/Anxiety)

ASSOCIATIVE BIAS:

F really hates M. Everything regarding M, make her remember back about that tragedy. When she looks at the other guys she will get traumatize again. Especially, when it is related to M for examples, the color of his shirt, his perfumes, the way he walks and the style of his hair on that night, even though he was not M. Every time she heard the same kind of voice like M, she will become anxious. She will experience the same feelings when that moment happened. She also cannot hear the same name like M. She will think he is the same guy who raped her, although she knows M was in prison.

GENERALIZATION:

She thinks that all men are the same like M which was trying to take an advantage on her. She does not want the same thing to happen again, so she made a decision to not make a friend with any guy anymore.
STIMULUS DISCRIMINATION:
After many years, now, she is a doctor. She lives her life as normal as she can. Although that terrific memory still haunted her, she tried to forget it. Due to her responsibility, she needs to interact and treat many people equally. She has some males colleague , but she puts a wall between them. She turns to a very careful person in choosing friends among male. Even though M betrayed her, F now try not to generalize other man same as him. She start to make friends again with males but she put a gap between them.

EXTINCTION

It has been 10 years, since the tragedy happened. F meets a good guy. He is caring, adorable, loving and funny. She falls in love with him. There is no hatred in her heart anymore and they plan to get married.

SPONTANEOUS RECOVERY

A month before their wedding, F goes into the basement in her house to find her old book. Suddenly, an old photo falls from the book. She feels scared because it is a photo of M. After a long time the hatred gone, it comes back. Her broken heart appeared again and she cries terribly.

HIGHER-ORDER CONDITIONING

Look at other guys with the similar color of M shirt, his perfumes, the way he walks and the style of his hair on that night, make her feel anxious. Now she was trauma even though there is no M.

The Story of F and M: Shadow of the Dark

F and M have been friend since the secondary school. M loves to give presents, flowers, chocolate and always protect and care of her. F love M but only as a friend. However, M cannot accept his love has been rejected. He feels insulted and he wants to avenge. One night, M called F and said he needs help. Unfortunately, M raped F. F lodged a police report and M was captured and sent to prison for 20 years.

Since that day, F really hates M. All the things that happened feel just like yesterday.

Since that incident F became worse. She tried to commit suicide, but she was helped and saved by her family. From a cheerful girl, she became paranoid. She doesn't want befriend with any guy anymore. Whenever some guys want to befriend with her, she strongly avoids. She thinks that all men are the same like M which was trying to take an advantage on her. She does not want the same thing to happen again, so she made a decision to not make a friend with any guy anymore.

After many years, now, she is a doctor. She lives her life as normal as she can. Although that terrific memory still haunted her, she tried to forget it.              At night, she performed prayer, bow down to the Creator, praised Him and asked Him for the calmness and guidance. She knows that this is just a little challenge in her life. Allah loves all His creation. He never burdens anyone with more than he or she can bear. She knows she'll be happy with her future husband because she realizes and believes that after every dark night, there is always a bright sunlight.
